Managed care combines health care financing with health care delivery. Instead of simply being an insurer, managed care creates networks of providers who agree to abide by health plan rules in exchange for a set, assigned group of patients. Managed care attempts to "manage" the care that is delivered in order to control costs, and uses lots of different strategies to do so.
