Knox-Keene is the legislation that was passed in 1975 that created the major regulations that managed care plans must meet in order to operate in California. Managed care plans have to meet a certain standard in terms of access, choice of providers, grievance policies, etc., according to the rules set forth in Knox-Keene. -GS
